Seriously though, I think this is the one that hurts the most out of all the bad M. Night Shyamalan movies. Not because its bad, which it is, very much so, but because it could have been so much better.

Some of the actors deliver a very strong performance, the cinematography is very atmospheric and claustrophobic, the music (even if a little hokey) is very effective, and the pacing is on par with some of the best movies of the genre.

But then there are big issues, like the paranormal element that doesnt add up, the silly moments (Jelly side down? Really?), the cooky dialogue that tries to be endearing but then it comes off as awkward, the characters are all blank slates and not interesting at all, and the needless plot twist that gets spoiled by the movie title itself thus ruining the surprise for everyone!

Technically this one shouldnt count as part of the marathon, since Shyamalan only wrote and produced it, but its impossible to deny it has his fingerprints all over it. Its very sad to see that, even when he steps down from the directors chair, a movie hes involved with still comes out as an unbalanced mess.

And now, if you excuse me, I need to call the emergency services. Weve been stuck in this elevator for five hours, and the fluffy one has already eaten seven jelly toasts. Where is she pulling them out from anyways?
