As a player, your experience with money or loot will vary pretty wildly as you play with different DMs. Some manage money rather finely, rewarding small sums very frequently, and coming up with ways to make you spend it a little bit at a time. Others simply don’t find it fun to fuss over it, so they just throw large piles of gold at you every once in a blue moon and let you buy items from the handbooks whenever. And some DMs so rapidly shower the players with powerful loot that gold quickly becomes a non-issue. It just goes to show: Who you play the game with is just as important as what game you’re playing.

DM: The Diamond Dogs stick to their end of the bargain. They guide you to the surface and let you go freely, each of you pulling a cart full of gems.
Applejack: Each of us? Dang, that’s a lot. How many jewels did you need, anyway?
Rarity: I MAY have inflated the number a bit to the Diamond Dogs.
Fluttershy: That means they got more, too…
Rainbow Dash: Hey, since we’re carrying back several tons of loot, do WE get a share?
Rarity: I’m afraid I won’t be keeping most of the gems. Most of this hoard is going into my client’s dresses.
Rainbow Dash: Oh…

Rarity: Buuut… I WILL be paid handsomely in gold. And I think you’ve each earned a cut for saving my life.
Rainbow Dash: Booyah!
