Spitfire, remembering how well Fluttershy had performed when the pegasi had brought water up into Cloudsdale, agreed to help her out. The training was slow and rigorous. However, Spitfire was surprisingly gentle with Fluttershy. The normally aggressive mare knew of Flutter’s timid nature and attempted to adapt her training methods to suit her new student. Granted, she still pushed the element of kindness to her limits, but she was significantly less abrasive than usual.
Training had lasted for a few days before something started to change. Spitfire found herself staring at Fluttershy more than usual, especially when she thought that the shy pony wasn’t looking. Whenever Fluttershy was struggling with a course or exercise, Spitfire also would pull her into a close wing hug and give her encouragement. It was obvious that Spitfire was crushing on Ponyville’s resident animal whisperer, and Fluttershy quickly began to pick up on the new development. And well, after some thinking, she realized that she quite liked the Wonderbolt’s bold leader.
Surprisingly, Fluttershy was the one to ask Spitfire out on a date (Flutters had given Spitfire numerous opportunities to ask her out, but the Wonderbolt seemed to chicken out every single time), and the fiery mare was quite taken back at the question. Naturally, she accepted the invitation, and they have been dating regularly since.
