I think they should have just made G5 a separate thing. I’ve always had the feeling that they’ve been using G4 as a crutch, as if they think they can leach off its popularity. The Twilight hologram and bringing Spike back have only reinforced this opinion.

It’s not unique to G5, but it’s a trend that the western entertainment industry has fallen victim to a cargo cult mentality, and MLP has sadly fallen for it. Meanwhile, a ‘clean slate’ reboot would not necessarily have had this problem.

Wow, that seems like a really stupid deal for Hasbro to have agreed to. Knowing next to nothing about how media contracts work, I’m just going to assume that’s standard in the industry, if it’s not then they’re idiots.

That does make me wonder why they bothered making G5 a sequel series in the first place. I’m personally glad G5 hasn’t spent all its time leeching off of G4 for story content, but it’s been used so little they may as well not have made them connected to start with.

I’m not really trying to hate on G5. I do find things to enjoy in it. But those things are rather superficial,
and I’m lamenting that the obsession-inducing nature of early G4 is something that will never happen again.

Honestly, the only thing I like from G5 is the detailed hooves and pegasus wings.
There isn’t a single character from G5 that I unironically find sympathetic.

Hard disagree from me. I’ll take the bean mouths and short stories that don’t overstay their welcome over the lifeless and incompetent CGI I’m expected to look at for half an hour at a time or more.

TYT looks like a lost cause for any worthwhile entertainment. MYM isn’t much better, but at least it looks less aesthetically revolting in some ways (ponies look more like ponies and less like Steven Stupiverse abominations)
