Today is International Chess Day.
Chess is the only board game that got its own Broadway musical, which was optioned for a movie a decade ago and then nothing happened.
If Water Polo is the sport of kings then Chess is the sport of emperors or better.

A lot of these chess puzzles are bullshit. There are multiple solutions.
“Huh, huh, huh, you’re supposed to pick the BEST solution.”
Okay, do I get the full 5 minutes I’m allowed in a legal tournament game?
“No! You only get 10 seconds or even if you get it right you still lose!”
So you’re telling me the puzzles are designed to make me lose even if I get it right on purpose because they’re bullshit?
“Apparently.”

Here’s three videos on an amazing automated chess board called Square Off. It’s rather expensive and requires fancy e-lectronic devices that I don’t have that are also rather expensive, but it’s amazing seeing the pieces move by themselves and connect people around the world.
