I’m not sure how seriously we should be taking Tell Your Tale’s world building at the moment. In addition to sudden magic and flight mastery I can’t help but notice that the whole of pony society is suddenly integrated again over a few weeks since the end of the movie after having been separated for generations for instance. Make Your Mark is coming in another month, we’ll know then if TYT is a reliable representation of what G5’s world is going to be like.
Maybe I’m alone in this, but it seemed like the longer Friendship is Magic went on the more effortless magic became for the population of Equestria as a whole. Every unicorn being OP or even just Izzy for the sake of gags won’t be out of line from where magic ended up going in G4. On that note: damn I wish they’d had a sit down to decide what the average unicorn could actually do and made a conscious effort to limit it.
As for Zipp, I feel like I can defend her flying skill somewhat. Remember that we were shown that she’s been practicing as early as her very first scene in the movie when she was jumping around the cliffs. I don’t know how much those giant fans in the transit depot she found could be helping her but the point is that she’s been using her wings more than most pegasi. We’re also shown in Sisters Take Flight and Zipp’s Flight School how clumsy all the other pegasi are with flying so far, so unlike Izzy and her magic TYT seems to at least be acknowledging that flying is a new experience for most of them going so far as making Zipp’s proficiency with flight a plot point of her spotlight episode.
