I’m pretty sure, if someone wants to be a mod, the team could verify that the person or user visits the site often enough or not using IP addresses or just login sessions.

I’m not saying that the people who post the most should become mods. I’m trying to say that people who come here often and actually do stuff are going to get noticed by the staff.

The most important quality for getting any job is that the people doing the hiring have to know you exist in the first place. And I was trying to give advice to someone who self-identifies as a “recovering ex-lurker” and wasn’t very active here to begin with.

Are you describing anyone besides UrbanMysticDee, me, and that anonymous Russian guy?

Thing is, those same people post a lot of inane shit. I check up on this site every day, yet by the criteria you used I couldn’t qualify to be a mod because I don’t drivel on in the comments enough for your standards.

Not that I’m actually interested in being a mod, just to be clear. I’m just noting there’s a serious flaw with a standard that would qualify some of the most annoying and stupid users to wield moderation powers while disqualifying someone more tempered. <:P

I think the best credentials you could have around here is just to make yourself known by posting stuff and talking to people on a regular basis. There’s a small core of around 2 or 3 dozen users who make almost all of the posts on the forums and the Discord server, so unless the admins want to being in people from the outside, future mods will probably be recruited from the celebrities of the community.

Visiting often is also part of a moderator’s job, so getting into the habit will show the staff that you can be counted on to actually show up.

You’re probably right. I was thinking of resumes in terms of people harvesting useless credentials for job applications; it was meant mainly for the purpose of self-deprecation. In any case, I don’t have the credentials or the connections, so you probably won’t find me moderating this site any time soon.
