“For the last time, PT, just because I happen to read books on thermodynamics, actually like school, and can recite the Periodic table by heart, does NOT make me an egghead! That’s not even a logical term. Clearly my head is more organ shaped.”

General Bio:
Introverted, responsible, and reclusive, Eclipse is the oldest of Twilight’s pair of twins sons. From a young age, it was obvious that Eclipse was much smarter than the average foal, since most five-year-olds aren’t able to build a walking toaster that can serve you breakfast in bed (or in the face, in Timber’s case). His high intelligence, coupled with a hunger to learn, causes Eclipse to excel in all forms of science, math, history, and politics; his spelling on the other hoof needs a little more work. Eclipse’s clever, detail-oriented mind shines best when he’s at work inventing some crazy new contraption or fixing some broken-down machine and making it even better than before. However, because he has such an analytical mind, Eclipse is prone to overthink things and struggles with panic attacks, especially in social situations. Speaking of which, don’t ever try to strike up a conversation with him in some public setting, or trust me, things will get awkward fast. Which is why for the most part Eclipse avoids all public events or circumstances that involve him and a stranger, preferring to rather stay locked up in his room with his twin brother, Pinetree, bringing him the food he needs to survive until the apocalypse is over.
Because of Eclipse is a recluse that tends to be by himself in his ̶b̶a̶s̶e̶m̶e̶n̶t̶ ̶l̶a̶b̶r̶a̶t̶o̶r̶y̶ workshop for days on end, it gives off the vibe that he doesn’t like ponies outside of his own family. Even when he is forced to interact with others, whether it’s kids his own age or ponies 20 years older than him, he often comes off as stiff, boring, and uncomfortable. But that’s just because he’s an awkward dork who doesn’t know how to carry a conversation that’s not related to astrophysics. When really, at his core, Eclipse is a sweet and kindhearted individual, though not nearly as sentimental or goofy as his brother. If you’d just look past his more serious demeanor, you’ll find an innocent and curious soul who longs to do what he can to understand and better the world. When he’s not working on his latest, most brilliant, ‘this-is-totally-gonna-benefit-society-and-get-me-written-down-in-the-history-books’ contraption, Eclipse likes to brush up on his Olde Ponish, go dumpster diving for parts for his creations, and occasionally play a game of Ogers and Oubliettes with his Uncle Spike.

Relationships:
Twilight:
These two adorakable nerds are a perfect match for each other, in a mother-son relationship kinda way. Twilight can’t help shedding a tear of liquid pride over Eclipse’s latest gadgets or excerpts on the Pythagorean theorem. And it’s this pride she has in him that Eclipse desires most of all and it drives him to push his limits. At the same time, he simultaneously feels pressured to live up to her expectations of him and secretly fears that one day he’ll let her down. For now, all that Twilight has ever done is encourage him when he fails and praise him when he succeeds, which is what he really needs. However, as much as Twilight loves her clever, book-loving son, she is concerned with his lack of friends. Unlike Timber, Twilight doesn’t force Eclipse quite as much into friend making, trusting he’ll find his own friendships in time, just as she did. In the meantime, the two enjoy doing egg-head stuff like spending hours in the lab performing experiments in the name of science and going to Math Olympics together.
Timber:
Of all of his family, Eclipse has the hardest time connecting with his Dad. They are not only pretty opposite when it comes to personality, but the only thing Timber has in common with his son is his relative knowledge of scientific names and star alignments. Still, even though Eclipse lacks shared interests and personality traits with Timber, he still loves his funny, easy going Dad and he knows he can always count on him to cheer him up when he’d feeling bogged down. As for Timber, even though he doesn’t understand half the stuff Eclipse talks about or what his inventory of inventions are supposed to do, he’s a proud papa anyway and fully supports his ‘egg-head’ of a son. He even does his best to bond with him by going with Eclipse to science fairs and space museums that aren’t too boring. But as proud as he is of his intelligent son, Timber shares Twilight’s worry that Eclipse is too reclusive and that not getting out enough will hurt him in the long run. This often leads him to gently nudge his son into many uncomfortable and social situations. As much as Eclipse hates this prodding, he understands it comes from Timber’s good intentions and tolerates it for his sake.
Pinetree:
Eclipse is the oldest of the twins by 5 minutes (not that he brags or anything) and as such he tends to take on the responsibilities of an older sibling towards his ‘little’ brother. As a result, the grounds his flighty brother, Pinetree, with insight, advice, and occasionally common sense at times when his brother would rather ‘leap before he looks.’ Despite being the smartest and most intelligent of the two, Eclipse is often dumb enough to follow Pinetree into any pranking scheme of his and he tends to work as the brains of their ‘operations’. He also ends up getting the short end of the stick when it comes to getting caught and getting the blame. Pinetree isn’t the best assistant when it comes to building the world’s greatest inventions, but Eclipse appreciates PT’s effort and company, even if it ends up in his lab getting a gaping hole in the ceiling every other Tuesday. Where Eclipse lacks in communication skills, he heavily relies on his socially adept brother to do all of the talking for him, and in the past, Pinetree has often been called on to rescue him from intensely awkward situations. Honestly, he doesn’t know what he would do without his favorite (and only) twin by his side.
Pansy:
Eclipse may not be as close to Pansy as Pinetree is, but he still loves his big sissy with all his heart. He doesn’t like nature, or romance books, or social interaction as much as Pansy does, and Pansy isn’t one for science, or math, or building things like Eclipse is. But what they lack in common interests, they make up for it with something deeper than that- common pressures. For one, they both struggle with being relatively shy and introverted, even though they’re on different levels. They also both feel a tendency to be pressured by the standards they feel are put on them by others as well as themselves. Eclipse finds comfort and solace in this and often goes to Pansy when he wants to talk about such issues and to just vent sometimes. Since Eclipse is also the most responsible and (arguably) mature of the twins, Pansy tends to trust him and treats him with more respect because of this. She’s also quite proud of her little brother’s ingenuity and loves to hear him ramble on about his inventions. Despite the fact that they have few shared hobbies, there is one subject they can both relate too; Pinetree. There have been many times that the two will have little ‘session’ where they both drink tea and rant to each other about how immature PT can be sometimes and discuss his latest shenanigans.

Special:
  • Eclipse is scared of heights, and as a rule, despises anything involving roller coasters, Ferris wheels, hang gliding, and climbing trees. He and Pansy relate with each on this often.
  • Eclipse is actually pretty good at magic, even more so than his brother. However, like his brother, he’s not too interested in improving his natural talent and prefers to use it for meager, pathetic means of lifting tools and barricading unwanted visitors from his workshop.
  • Eclipse has an interest in Zebracan (African) music and has taken some lessons from Zecorra on how to play the Sitar. See, he can do something not sciencey related once in a while.
  • Eclipse knows and gets along somewhat with Rocky since both are known as the town nerds and live up to that profession. I’m not saying Rocky has taken him under his metaphorical wing or anything, but he certainly feels like something of a mentor to the little guy ( who will soon be bigger than him. Curse his small pony genes.) However, the role is at times switched with Eclipse knowing something he doesn’t, and in those moments Rocky feels more like Eclipse is a kindred soul, if Rocky ever knew what one was.
  • Eclipse is really a great guy, but because he grows up so reclusive, he doesn’t make very many friends outside of his family ( no your brother isn’t technically supposed to count as a friend). That, however, doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any at all. He’s got a good thing going on with Clementine, who, when she isn’t working the farm, likes to hang out with him, build stuff, fix machines, and convince him that sunshine is vital for a pony’s health.
  • Does he have a photographic memory, or is he just really great a memorizing details????
