We got some angst up in heeyah
So for those who don’t know, Sombra in my AU was controlled by dark magic known as “The Malice” or “Arion”, to the point where Sombra was a mindless puppet and had no idea what Arion was using him for. One of those things included the attempt to recapture the empire from Cadance and Shining, the new leaders.
So now after marrying Twilight, Sombra meets his new relatives… which some aren’t quite fond of him.
Flurry was quite warm and welcoming of Sombra when they first met, even after hearing the horror stories of him. She didn’t see him as a threat at all, even going as far as to call him “Uncle” right out the gate. It shocked Sombra to hear this, but he decided not to question it or speak too much about it.
Shining was… very cold to him, bitterly cold. Sombra remembered him and Cadance from that one mere second he got of freedom, seeing Shining laying on the ground wounded as Cadance lay protectively over him (seen here: https://www.deviantart.com/gingygin/art/You-Monster-876014468). Sombra mumbled and fell over his words, trying to form an apology, but Shining only stopped him, giving him some harsh words- both of them barely making eye contact as they moved on.
Cadance decided it best to give Sombra another chance, not really for him- but for the sake of her being the “Princess of Love” and for Twilight and Penumbra’s sake. Sombra took notice of this quite quickly, and both were highly uncomfortable.
Lastly, it came down to meeting Twilight’s parents; Twilight Velvet and Nightlight. By that point, Sombra broke- silently at first, but all of the pent up regret and confusion came bursting out, the weight of the situation practically suffocating him. He knew meeting the family was going to bad, but nothing could’ve prepared him for what he had just been through. In his shelter, Velvet and Night came to his side, asking him what was wrong- and he started blubbering, bawling even, like a lost child that had been shoved into the spotlight. He told them everything, being admittedly soft, his walls lowered just for them. They listened to him fully, and comforted him, giving him soothing words. They let him know that they were there for him, and he broke at that too. It had been so long since he had parental figures in his life, especially with the overhanging guilt of betraying his adopted mother. He finally felt he had at least some hope of connecting with Twi’s family, he just had to work hard to reach the other two.
