I’m heard that the “likes” and other interacting cause a bit of dopamine to be release in a person’s brain, causing a bit of pleasure. Over time, like with anything, it can become addictive, so once deprived of that interaction or worse getting a “dislike” can cause actual withdrawn in the user. That constant up and down of brain chemistry is said to have a terrible effect on the user’s mental health over time and since these people spend hours each day on social media sites, the damage accumulates quickly. The mental illness said to be most often caused is depression, especially in younger people.
That’s the explanation that I’ve heard, at least. But yes, I fully agree with you that it does defend illnesses and even glorifies them.

Social media doesn’t causes mental illness, they defend it. I remember back in the day if someone saying some dumb shit. They will get rip to pieces and regret even saying it. Nowadays with all this mass censorship and “hate speech”. Their fringe ideas can be flourish without no challenge. Which normalize mental illness. Most of these people are mentally ill. I’m not insulting them. No, they do, indeed, suffer from various mental illnesses. They need actual, professional treatment and not Twitter. Social media causes mental illness, so people with pre-existing conditions definitely shouldn’t been exposed to it. That’s just one reason why BigTech are evil, they destroy people, causing suicides, and they just don’t care.
