Now we’ve definitely earned an afternoon off. Let’s pick up some mane dye in case we need to throw off descriptions and then relax.

With the matter of the Undercity’s protection settled, you bid farewell to Novelty, who now seems more than eager to get back to her research — no doubt to learn more about her newly acquired curio.

Novelty: “Oh, and I suppose I should thank you. For… helping. With this. So… thanks.”

An awkward pause leaves you to believe that something was left unsaid, but you choose not to pry. Instead, you offer the mare a friendly smile, and tell her that she is welcome.

Moonflower: “Yuh uh! Let us know if ya need more magic stuff to study!”

You exit the factory feeling proud of what you’ve accomplished here thus far, though a yawn creeps up on you, a reminder that you still have some sleep to catch up on later. For now, taking it easy doesn’t seem like such a bad idea.

Upon reaching the nearest city map, you recall Justice’s warning that a pony matching your current look may have trouble entering towns on the surface. With that in mind, you propose paying a visit to the local stylist to change your appearance, and potentially avoid getting recognized.

Though your party agrees with that plan, Apple Basket is quick to point out a minor oversight.

Apple Basket: “Uh, that’d work for the hornless pony with red-violet hair part, but what about the striped black lizard with wings?”

Smoke: “Eh, don’t worry about it. Trust me, I can stay out of the guards’ sights if I have to.”

You make your way south to the Mall district, and enter the style parlour, where you are greeted by a soft-spoken mare wearing a multicoloured-stained outfit. While she gives your unusual group a curious once-over, her gentle smile never leaves her muzzle.

Stylist: “Um, welcome! What can I do for you?”

You greet the mare in turn, and ask her about changing your hair colour.

Stylist: “Of course. Let me have a good look at you. Hmm… hill orange coat and… dark cerulean eyes? Give me just a moment, and I’ll find you some matching colours to choose from.”

The stylist walks over to a nearby shelf where hundreds of hair dyes are sorted by hue, forming a veritable rainbow of products. She grabs a bottle here and there, then brings her selection over to a display with neutral lights, allowing you to see the dyes’ true colours.

Stylist: “I believe these are the best options I have available. Bottles cost two bits each, and contain enough dye for a medium-length mane or tail, just like yours.

If you fancy two-toned hair like mine, one bottle of each colour will do. Otherwise, you’ll need two bottles of the same colour for a full recolour.

If you’re interested, I can also take care of dyeing your mane and tail for you, free of charge. Just let me know what kind of pattern you’d like, and we’ll go from there.”
