“Heya, wanna be friends?!” A voice rang out in front of him, and he was instantly bothered. When he looked up, he saw something… pretty good, actually. A young zebra, maybe even his age, with gorgeous blue eyes and a bright smile. She stood there, mouth open in anticipation, awaiting Panther’s response eagerly.
It took Panther a while to realize he was just looking at him, so he let out a huff and rested his head back on the ground. Though the zebra was pretty, and even friendly looking, Panther just wasn’t in the mood. He needed time to think. Could Luna have really abandoned him?
“Hey! You look at me when I’m talking to you, ugly.” The zebra’s voice rang out again, but this time she really had Panther’s attention. He looked up right away, shocked.
“Oh, uh-” Panther began, but didn’t get far before he was cut off.
“It’s a yes or no question,” a smile had reappeared on her face, and she looked as if nothing just happened. Like she hadn’t just screamed at him.
“Y-yeah… sure,” Panther shook his head, cursing at himself silently. Be confident. “Yes,” he stated, nodding this time at his satisfactory, hesitation-free answer. “I’ll be your friend.”
“Great! I’m Zena,” she smiled, bouncing up to show her excitement to this strange new visitor.

I wanted to continue on Panther’s story, but hopefully for now, I’m okay with where it currently is and I’ll probably be taking a break
Panther’s got the traditional zebra haircut here
Zena needs to work on her insults, she does, but she’ll get way better at quick insults when she’s older
I wanted to make this a conversation that kids would normally have. I remember just being asked to be friends, there wouldn’t be much development. Just, “hey, want to be friends?” and then saying “sure!” and starting a friendship from scratch. Hopefully I captured that
