This is the first time I’ve attempted what many would consider a life-size plush! At 48 inches from hoof to hoof and weighing in at just over 8 pounds, this is one massive pony!
When I first started making plush, I wanted to attempt a large Rainbow Dash but I was always intimidated by the complexity of her mane and tail as well as by the challenges of working so big! In many ways I feel this is a testament and culmination of everything I have learned thus far! She looks even better in person - though, due to her size, I don’t think she will be travelling with me to any cons.
She is made with soft minky fabric and stuffed with polyester fill. She doesn’t have a rigid frame but is stuffed firmly enough to support herself while maintaining the right softness for a hug! All details, including eyes and cutie mark are appliqued on - no embroidery here! All hand sewn areas (mane, tail, wings, neck and ears) are double reinforced with extra heavy-weight thread.
Due to her size and complex mane and tail, Rainbow Dash took about 75 hours to make over approximately 2 months.
