Princess Celestia is responsible for the rising of the sun.

a mother pony to her kingdom, and is often seen giving advice 
to her students of magic. She adores Trampling of the Leaves 
as Fall is her favorite season. But when it comes to enemies who threaten her kingdom, lookout! Her magic is one of the most powerful in the land!
 
Princess Luna once was in charge of the rising of the moon when night 
time began, but she became jealous that no one noticed her amazing 
feat, every other pony only seemed to notice the sun during the day. 
So Luna became angry and said she would never take the moon down! 
Her sister was forced to place Luna into the moon for her wicked behavior.
