That feeling when the book closed...

Having joined the herd fairly late, I didn’t have the same amount of history with the show. Nonetheless, I definitely experienced some wetness of the eyes during that final episode.
Such a good show all around! I’ll never stop recommending people give it a shot, incredulity and strange reactions be damned. IMHO it’s exactly the kind of positive and hopeful stuff we need right now, especially.
And the richness and talent of the fan works continues to impress me. So much great music, art, etc.!
It all just makes me wish I’d discovered it sooner. :)

The fan community set my standards too high, I think. I’ve not seen another as productive or with as many skilled artists & musicians.

My book never closed. I took Faust’s mantra for the creation of the series to heart, and the story still goes on through fan works tempered by my own personal canon. The ride never ends.

When that book closed, I kind of wanted to hunt Josh Haber down and slap him.
I think I felt a mix of frustration with how it all ended and relief, thinking that at least they couldn’t make things any worse now. Of course, here I am dreading “Season 10” from the comics and what they’ll bring to the table.
I don’t think I’m ready to move on, going on to Derpibooru and now here every day has been part of my life for the last six years and I don’t really want that to stop even if I’m long past done taking the official material seriously.

All it takes is just one person to keep the dream alive; When I was a child I really got into a series called The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers, which was this never should of happened mix between an American studio, a Japanese animation company and a hair metal band to make a sci-fi space western. After that I forgot about it for years until I stumbled upon someone called red something that had written by herself another two seasons of the show as a A+ fanfic the reignited my memory of the show.
I ended up seeking out a copy of the series and re-watching it, watching it again with my little brother and even including it in a hard drive full of kids shows I gave to a friend as a baby shower gift.
I’m sure one day these people will remember the show and try to dig it out for their kids to watch and the same is true for MLP.

After looking up that series, I’m surprised I never saw it as a kid. Gonna have to fix that, right after finishing the VIZ Media de-censor/re-release of Sailor Moon.

In terms of the actual scene itself as the final moment of the show, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get a bit teary-eyed. I stated back in 2012 that if this shows final moment wasn’t the closing of that book from episode 1 I would be absolutely pissed at such a waste of a perfect opportunity for wrapping up a story that brought so many people together.
I’m glad they did it that way, even if I didn’t much care for some of the later seasons happenings. I still love the show dearly and watch it quite regularly, and I will be around in this community until hell freezes over, but as an ending proper for the show I’m really glad it happened the way it did.
Been on the ride since episode 4 and I’m not going anywhere any time soon.
Thank you for the fun!

Oh, I thought the ending was absolutely perfect. Particularly with those last few notes. I’m just waiting for a series compilation to come out on blu-ray now. Hopefully the jacket will have the book covers on the reverse side.
I never really understood most of the complaints people had about them “ruining” the show, but then I never took it too seriously. It was just a dumb, wonderful cartoon that made me happy.

I understand the complaints, many of the characters had drastically changed in ways that made little sense by the end of the show. That said, I took in in stride too. I just loved the cute horses doing cute things, that’s really all it boils down to for me.
There really was some bad writers though that just made exceedingly ‘meh’ tier episodes. At least the horses were still cute in them usually.

Honestly I didn’t want to watch the ending episode because of the same thing. I did it only some days before last new year as a way to say good bye to the last decade.

Perhaps fore-knowledge of it being reused poisoned it for me, but that song just made me dig my fingernails into my arms in contempt.

“Reused”? I don’t recall that song from any other episode.

It’s from Legend of Everfree. I think it was “So you’ve got Magic” or something like that. They changed the lyrics, but the music is exactly the same with no deviation.

Oh, it’s an EqG thing. Never watched it.
EDIT: Wow. It’s not quite identical but I see what you mean. I definitely prefer the finale version, though.

I may have joined the Herd in mid 2013 (Just before the first EqG came out) but yeah, the maths still checks out. 1/3rd of my life has been dedicated to these damned cute ponies, and one ultra-sexy bughorse in particular.
And the money. Oh myGod Celestia, the money…
