opal as a tag doesn’t exist; for the gemstone, it’s so under-tagged that there’s only two instances of opal (gemstone), so I think it’s fair to say that we could use opal as shorthand for opalescence.  
_{Additionally, Derpi already has both opal and opl as shorthand aliases, so I’ll just go ahead and do the same here…}

“Opl” may have also begun as a typo of “Opal.” I’ve seen common typos used as aliases on DB before.
