Artist impersonation

Just nobody important.
Please guys, do not impersonate people with accounts here.

I am requesting that not be allowed when caught/reported. There’s absolutely no need to do such things. Especially if we are to be in the right.

Enforce a LetsEncrypt style system where you prove your account on DB is under your control. If the account exists on the derpibooru side, then to register it you have to add a randomly generated string to your user page. Let’s cut this off before it gets nasty and we start dealing with serious impersonation. After all, there’s a lot of desire from certain groups to make this fail, and enforcing it at a technical level seems to be the only way we’ll keep bad actors from acting bad.

That’s pretty much how verification works already.

In order to make it a requirement, you would need a list of all artist names to check against during registration. Impractical, at the least.

I don’t think it’s that impractical. Derpibooru has 125,000 artist tags (of which 60,000 have 1 image or less, and only about 49,000 have 3 images or more), and registering new user accounts doesn’t happen that often (once every few minutes, maybe, not constantly), so it seems completely feasible.

The question is what’s the limit on what can be claimed - if someone makes an artist tag on here starts regularly making stuff, while someone else put 5 images on derpi five years ago under the same tag, who gets to claim it? Should it be limited to “notable” people in some way, maybe artists with 100 images or more? What about people who have a reputation in the community but not much art; since this is directly intended to cannibalise the derpibooru userbase, should notable derpi users get to claim their account? E.g. would a Bexar Bandito impersonation account count as “trolling”?

A lot of people are trying to file general DNPs, yet I see absolutely none there. All that’s there as of this moment are artist-upload-only type dealies.

I’ve noticed this, and if it happens I’ll correct the issue by force-renaming accounts.

There’s some artist / person parody accounts here that I know of, I won’t touch them unless it becomes a problem beyond parody or if they try to pretend that they are who their named for.

@Skoon
does this site respect DNP?

Our DNP policies are going to be changing soon, but it’s to be geared towards active users.

Probably going to handle artist tags the same way OC tags are already handled - Derpi tags take precendence , new artists can slightly change their artist: tag to include a special thing like an alias or (new) etc.

Wholly agreed.

In that spirit, it’s why I specifically gave consent to upload my work here. Though… hardly anybody has. haha washed up sad face

It isn’t surprising. This site clearly only vaguely plays at respecting the wishes of artists. As shown by this wonderful lil snippet from Rule 2.

“If an artist removes all legitimate ways to acquire their art, via paid or unpaid means (Patreon, DeviantArt, Twitter, etc) an exception will be made to allow users to upload their art.”

Basically the moderators can just selectively decide that DNPs are invalid. This hellsite is going to get in legal trouble for this bullshit, lol.

Yes, I would prefer they just respect the DNP.

It’s sad when an artist removes their work from the whole web, but in my artist opinion the art still belongs to its creator.

Some people vanish for a reason too. Like they’ve been doxxed or blackmailed in some way. Or they want to move on from fandom work to a media career.
