When I initially tried to make my account, it told me my chosen password was a part of a data breach on another site. [CONCERN INTENSIFIES]

So I finally decided to create an account. Even then, I can’t change my password to what I want. Instead, I got this: “We’ve detected that the password you entered has been compromised during a data breach of another website.”

What data breach of what website?

I’d have to ask an admin but I’m fairly sure the registration checks against those leaked passwords linked by Korato. Its not a bad idea to check your email and passwords there, and if you find a breach your account was involved in take measures to secure any sites you may have used the same password on as the breach occurred. Also consider avoiding using any passwords on that list even if a site allows it as those passwords are more likely to be used in brute force attacks.

I’d advise everyone to make up new passwords for everything, the more random the better, and keep them in a simple notebook. You’ll memorize the ones you use with any frequency quickly enough.
