Game devs so lazy they won’t even code their own engines anymore and look at what happens.

Near as I can tell, this article thinks that Starfield’s npcs are so ugly that it constitutes racism on Bethesda’s part. But also, not liking or making fun of Starfield’s ugly npcs is racism on the player’s part.

Coding your own engine is pretty hard, actually. And time consuming. And a completely different ballpark from making a game.

Eh, hopefully it gets better in its overall handling of things like particles, and shading. There’s still Panda 3D, Unreal, and Torque 3D…

I don’t think so. But I’m going to start a new project regardless, to better understand the engine. I’ll return to my previous project afterwards.

The upcoming Spider-Man game looks good, but I’m wondering how they handle Miles Morales. It looks like Kraven is the primary antagonist, and he’s a very personal enemy to Peter Parker. Peter wears the symbiote suit, and Venom is created later. And, from what I gather, a major part of the plot is Peter trying to help Dr. Connors cure his Lizard affliction. All of those things are Peter Parker stories, not Spider-Man stories. So how does Miles Morales fit into any of this?

I know that Miles has his own story missions, and you can freely switch between Miles and Peter during free roam. The two characters even have their own skill trees, which indicates that he’s around for a good bit of the story. Is there a completely separate Morales story crammed in there? Is he a supporting character in this very Peter-centric story they’ve crafted, which is what should be the case? Or is he just photobombing Peter’s whole life now, making himself a central character in Peter’s defining struggles? That last one is what I’m worried about.

If they do have a full second story about Miles Morales crammed in there, where do they put it? Apparently, the game is only about as long as the first one. Kraven, Venom, and Peter’s time with the symbiote suit messing with his mind are all entire storylines by themselves, and they added the Lizard plot on top of that. It would be really easy to dilute the story, even without Miles Morales in the mix.

I smell bait and switch. Much like Mr. Negative wasn’t the main antagonist. Marvel has been and will not stop trying shoe-horning Miles Melatonin into the spotlight for a long time now.

With Venom and no hint at Eddy Brock, likely Spider-Man becomes Venom and Miles have to save him or more likely stop him just to prop him up as the real hero of the story, when half the time in his own, he’s the one needing to be rescued. Most likely Spider-Man dies and “other” spider-man will take center stage in the game. For how much and when, not sure.

Have you seen What Ifs Miles Morales edition? I’m not joking, there is such a story collection.

Yeah. They’re just “What if Miles was a Very Good boy!” by making him other superheroes, showing he could really be anyone since he’s just a blank slab. Gwen Stacy also got something similar, but no one care enough. At least when they did it with Spider-Man they had interesting ideas like him keeping the symbiote or being the Punisher.

The What if Miles was Thor was one of the worst ones too. Changing Asgard into Blaxgard.

Considering how much I used to be into Skyrim, Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, I find it genuinely shocking how much I don’t care about Starfield.
I certainly have zero desire to play it. If it was bad in a moderately interesting way, maybe I would at least listen to a negative review in the background while I do something else, but it’s not even worthy of that.

I’m playing Wo Long. I’ve never been interested in the Soulsborne genre, but I’m enjoying this one.

Reminder that as much as I like the PS Vita and PS3, the latter of the aforementioned two is why Gabe Newell and Valve gave up on console development.

Gabe Newell utterly HATED working with the PS3. it had so many twists and turns regarding its architecture.
