Video game thread

If any of you are looking for a game to de-stress, I’d recommend coloring pixels on steam. I have hundreds of hours in that game. It’s also free with each dlc costing one dollar.

In the same vein, I’d recommend Evergarden and Voxelgram. Both not free, but worth the asking prices for good puzzlers.

I’m starting to think huniepop 2 is never getting released.

Yeah, but he keeps pushing the date back and back. He also has a terrible habit of disappearing for months with no update.

Anyway, last update on twitter after they moved accounts was August 14th, claiming “~96% done, son!”, though after the whole “art poll fiasco” with HunieCam, I’ll remain more skeptical and cynical than I already am for anything they produce until it releases.
 
On a related note, if you don’t want to sift through twitter, HP2 will apparently include some sort of redeem code system and a few were released between Feb-Aug. Here’s the list “for when the game comes out”:

while i personaly heavely dislike comunism and socialism as a whole, i have to admit that its fun to larp as rice farmers using ww2 guns, chinese AKs and makeshift traps, getting destroyed by US & allies using the latest tech, air support, transport and attack choppers, napalm, long range artillery and overall better guns, just to somehow still fucking win and have half the team scream “GI GO HOME, NOBODY LIKE YOU GI” in a shitty accent

Pone artist:  
DaiLevy, of Secret Horse Files and Love Collector fame. They abandoned LC, for which they were collecting patreon subs, in an incomplete state to “focus on SHF3”. With SHF3, they have a traceable habit of promising releases/content, then posting multi-paragraph apologies as to why the promised release hasn’t materialized which usually rely on recycling the tropes “it was the artist’s fault for getting me assets late” or “I’m really bad at managing time” while still pulling per-month patreon sub money - their current “release” was supposed to have materialized “in a few days” from August 31st, but instead has only released four essays as to why its late, with the last one being an “I’m bad with time, sorry”. Did I forget to mention that this person that is bad with time decided to start working on a third game while the one for which they abandoned their first one is still incomplete? So, all in all, another patreon success story.
 
Poll Fiasco:  
During dev of HunieCam, there were a lot of complaints about the radical shift in art style from the more “anime” style of Pop to the extremely chibi style. Ryan Koons, better known as HunieDev, put out a statement that “the team” (note: HuniePot is a one-man dev team) wanted to see how people felt about the art direction of Cam, so he put up a poll and intoned that if response was weighted enough there would be changes. When the poll started skweing as far 75% against Cam’s current art style, he closed the poll early, retracted statements of change, and started deleting threads about it.

Why do people keep sticking by these Yandev types after they reveal themselves? And I guess fuck HP2, then.

Sony is going full bend the knee to the CCP with the newest PS4 update as well as with the upcoming PS5. Another reason to dump Sony as a game company, along with their stupid content guidelines they set up at around late 2016-2017 shortly after they restructuring to San Francisco. May the PS5 end up selling half as much as the PS3.

People still take Jeremy seriously? The EULA he showcases in that video is only for China and its territories (contested or not), not the rest of the world (would be nice if he posted links to his research, but instead he posts links to his sponsored app that <GASP> siphons your personal data to tell you what your political leaning is.) As to recording chat, Sony has been documenting chat since the PS3 - taking documented snippets of audio chat is an evolution of the same system that has been in place for, what has it been, 12 years? If you want to stick it to Sony for censorship in China, you need to be looking at Google, Microsoft, Apple, Nintendo, and many, many more or you may be seen as a hypocrite.

I wonder how much PUBG’s Battle Pass has changed since it first came out as basically a knockoff of Fortnite’s in mid-late 2018…

OK, which version of Half-life 1 available on Steam is worse, Half-Life Source, or the Standard issue Steam version? I already played through the first 4 levels of Half-Life: Source over a year ago when it was free for a short time BTW.

HL:S is buggy as hell. Original HL may be (relatively) graphically dated, but it plays significantly better, is more solid in terms of bugs, and has a large modding scene. As a rule of thumb, only get HL:S if you want its assets in GMod.
 
EDIT: Alternately, you could get Black Mesa, the unofficially endorsed fan remake of HL; it has some flaws (the AI is pretty atrocious), but it’s considered to be a worthy remake of the original.

I always preferred Heretic and Hexen, but original Doom is always good. I still need to buy the new episode Romero put out.
 
And yeah, I know, it’s free. But I’d rather buy the soundtrack version to support its creation.
