That I know of? There was a mod for Stellaris. There’s one for GalCiv 3 that I saw a while back. There’s an Avali mod for Rimworld, as well, and I want to say that there’s one I’m forgetting.

Eh, the Stellaris mod could use some work. The portraits clash with the game’s art style and they’re not animated, that and we need an Avali Ship/Station models…

Actually, Stellaris needs more model variety as a whole. One style per species class is a shameful lack of variety considering how many years Paradox has had to work on it.

Actually Stellaris needs a lot a stuff, like a proper combat system.

Stellaris is an infinite cash grab. The only way you’ll get more official variety is if you pay for it. You’re probably familiar with how they removed two of the FTL methods only to re-add them under new names via paid DLC.

Steam is just a DRM platform, now with political agendas.

Maybe that belongs in an unpopular opinions thread, but it’s true.

Well, I do know they’re quietly making backroom deals to make “Steam China” compliant with CCP, but apart from that I’m not sure what this is about…

Not that I wish to downplay that point thou, that is a serious problem. Never kowtow to the CCP.

I’ve run into the issue of a few games that wouldn’t launch when Steam was down. Though in some cases I could just launch the game directly and it ran fine. TES: Oblivion, for instance.

Don’t know if it’s been listed here, but Pokémon Go. They have egg-hatching events and say that some species are rare. By rare, they mean spending between $200–400 to have a reasonable chance of hatching at least one of the rare species. After Eurogamer makes yet another article about this practice, they increase the rates from “totally unheard of” to “if you’re lucky”.

Sounds about right for Nintendo’s mobile record. That Magicarp raising game, that Mario runner, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Ingress: Pokemon Edition… I haven’t been big on Nintendo in a long time, but I always thought they were better than at least that.

Ingress was Niantic’s first game. “Aliens come to Earth to share some knowledge, two factions fight over it being good or bad by taking control of ‘portals’ and blanketing the world in energy fields of triangles drawn from angles of three portals.” Based off of a mediocre novel and spawned a manga and anime; dunno if the fimfiction fics are related in any way at all.

Context given, Niantic used the Ingress portal map to create the Pokemon GO pokestop map, then culled schools and the like when it was used by predators to get at children.

Standing out from the usual AAA Industry Crap or Spastic Indie Dev BS? Nothing specifically relating to video games, no.

There is that ongoing legal battle between Epic Games and Google/Apple, though that’s not really about video games. Still, a fight between scum corporations is entertaining to watch, if only all three could somehow loose…that would be ideal.

While I hate Google and Apple with a passion, I disagree. Epic engineered this, knowing full well that they were breaking an existing contract; they had their anti-Apple propaganda and their lawsuit ready the day they got booted. By winning this war (let’s just call it what it really is), they would set dangerous legal precedence in regards to contract law.

To be perfectly honest, the outcome with the least collateral damage would be for all parties to settle out of court. In a legal battle like this, whoever wins, it’s the consumers that lose.

All big companies are evil. Especially big companies with deep ties to hostile foreign powers like China.

I wasn’t doubting any of that. My point is more the lasting effects of this war if anybody outright wins.

If Apple/Google wins (if one wins, the other wins), Epic loses their dev account on iTunes and every developer using UE on Apple-distributed games loses all support.

If Epic wins, they set a legal precedent to break contracts when it’s profitable, which could have serious repercussions for consumer protections.

If they settle out of court, the likely outcome would be a return to status quo with no consumer impact short of the past delisting.
