Distant banjo noise
It’s has been a while, but I guess I could come back to unload something that feels bad, man.
This week we lost a new coworker who got himself fired after only 2 weeks with us. First thing first: yeah, he was autist.
He was a pretty decent guy to hang around- only a bit chatty and overwhelming, but nothing that one couldn’t tolerate.
He was a pretty decent guy to hang around- only a bit chatty and overwhelming, but nothing that one couldn’t tolerate.
Until we had lunch, that’s it. Guy had an awful habit of chewing with his mouth open and made all kind of unnerving noises when he was eating or drinking, plus since he talked and talked while he still had food on his mouth, he made even more unnerving noises. We endured him for a few days until we couldn’t take it anymore and so we -politely- asked him to please close his mouth when he was chewing, and please not talk with food on his mouth because it was unpleaseant for everyone.
He got angry and from that moment on, he decided to deliberately make all kind of loud, gross noises while he was eating, and even during work hours he suddenly started to lick his lips and slurp saliva to unnerve us. Every attempt to reason with him only made him angrier and angrier until he screamed that we were discriminating him and so he went to HR to complain about us. The same day he stormed back to our office to pick his stuff, screamed at us and left.
We later found out that our HR guy tried to explain to him that his behavior was unappropiate and our stance was valid- but instead of listening, he got even angrier and began to interrupt the HR guy by making licking and slurping noises over and over again, so he was declared unfit to work with us and was fired.
Why are autists like this? All he had to do was to behave like an adult, instead he lost his job because he thought that not letting him be annoying on purpose was discrimination against autist people.
