This is why peaches are shaped like butts:
During development, plant tissue called meristem closes around the seed like a hand forming a fist. “The butt is a consequence of this meristematic tissue folding over on itself to form an enclosure for the seed.” And like forming a fist, this leaves a seam between fingers and palm, what’s called a suture.
