When you put an open can in the refrigerator you have to put a plastic bag over the top, otherwise people will assume the can is closed, turn it upside down for no apparent reason, and create a huge mess.
 
The bag does nothing to preserve the contents of the can, it just serves as a warning label to other people not to turn the can upside down, even though there’s no reason to do so unless you’re shaking the can before opening it because it’s got like milk or something in it and you want to mix it before drinking.
