Fresh off Cowboy Bebop, Netflix is releasing a live-action One Piece adaptation, followed by live-action Avatar: the Last Airbender, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Megaman shows in 2023.

I have some questions after several controversies:

drama from Kaldheim (over a Black character who visited the Norse-based realm), Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (which has gay vikings), and God of War Ragnarok (Angrboda as a Black girl, Thor as fat):

  1. What are your thoughts on those three games?

  2. As someone who writes sci-fi inspired by Norse mythology, what are some ways do you think to make it less “offensive” to you? There may be some elements in my works that may make it not-so-Norse, like aliens praying to Norse gods, and a Norse boy inviting his friends to pray with him at a temple.

which has gay vikings
So did actual norse, including fucking Odin (seidr is female magic, anyone practicing it is a bottom, Odin practices ALL magic). Still was shunned, though, so actual gay couples aren’t happening and should either existn’t or be shunned appropriately, doing their stuff in secret.
Angrboda as a Black girl
If blacks aren’t svartalves or muspellheim denizens, it’s racist. Angrboda isn’t a svartalf, she’s a jotunn. Therefore it’s racist trash to appeal to audience that is far more likely to dindu your game than to buy it.
Thor as fat
The only issue with that is inability to wear the belt that gives (along with the gauntlets) mythological Thor the ability to lift Mjolnir. He basically does two things: feast, and get into fights with everything admittedly he’s then strong enough to wetten the score against Jormungandr, the world ocean, and Old Age itself.
over a Black character who visited the Norse-based realm
Being black is adaptation to high amounts of sunlight. Norse don’t get high amounts of sunlight, they’ll ALL be white and anyone black will get brittle bones and die because their skin can’t generate enough vitamin D. Blacks also suffer severely from the cold for obvious reasons, so any visitors to the North would wear a ton of clothes and fuck off as soon as possible.
It’s typical delusion to the “hurr there are no racial differences” point, which is self-defeating.

Thanks.

What about my ideas inspired by Norse mythology?

  1. aliens praying to Norse gods, because said gods visited them long ago
  2. another alien, who was raised in a human neighbourhood, was brought up in Norse culture and prays to the same gods as his neighbours.
  3. a Norse guy inviting his friends (including non-Europeans who happen to be his neighbours) to cosplay as Norse deities for a Christmas party. Earlier, he brought one of his friends to have a look at how his people pray at a hof or temple.

What ways do you think I should use to make them less SJW-ish or offensive?

What ways do you think I should use to make them less SJW-ish or offensive?
Step 1: stop caring about “offensiveness” and “SJW-ness”, trying to avoid them at all costs results in fucking up in exactly same way as following them at all costs. Step 2: make them make sense within your setting, make the internal logic sound.

I know you didn’t ask me, but I feel the need to say something here. @Barhandar is on point when he tells you that worrying about “SJW-ness” is the wrong approach, but I think that’s not a very helpful way of phrasing it.

What I would say is: Your primary concern should be authenticity. If your work comes from the heart, and clearly has thought about internal consistency with the story you want to tell, then you’ll find an audience.

In creating my own worlds and stories, I have put in some content that could be interpreted as “woke” by bad faith culture warriors, but said content is in there because I have an internally consistent justification for it and it’s a part of a story I want to tell. It’s not in there for the sake of pandering to a certain crowd or trying to push THE MESSAGE, and I cannot stress enough: that’s the important part.

People can smell that shit from a mile away, especially now that everyone is hyper-sensitive to it. Don’t worry about being “offensive”, don’t worry about how your work is perceived in the context of real world politics, don’t try to make your work “woke” or “anti-woke”. Just tell the story you want to tell, do it in a way that makes sense within the world’s own internally consistent logic and make sure it comes from the heart.

At the end of the day, you’ll never know how your work will be interpreted until you release it anyway. So don’t let that hold you back.

It does make sense within the setting of my works, where gods sometimes shape civilisations just to see how beautiful they’ll become, or to use them to defend the Galaxy from greater threats . And also, some people being influenced by their cultures.

God Bless your efforts, just remember that the saddest story of all is the one that never gets told. So don’t let anyone tell you that you shouldn’t make it, especially not killjoy ideologues.

I remember a pastor in a church camp who gave me this lesson (not directly, but during a sermon or pep talk): “So many people have taken their dreams to the grave. What are you doing to not be like them?”

I forgot the exact words, but this became a life lesson, which drove me to make more worldbuilding. If not for him, I would have either slid into isolated fundie not-“Christianity”, or retreated into being some anime-sucking consoomer who didn’t make anything of lasting worth or expansive wit.

I doubt it. They stuck him with ninjas so that if the backlash is worse than they anticipated, they can walk the changes back once he’s done with whatever ninja thing he’s doing.

The new Matrix is out, I guess. I know nothing about it, outside of seeing that the director intends it to be one of the most blatant political vehicles in recent years. Apparently the motivation behind the movie is to “take back the term ‘red pill’ from the right.” It’s sitting at 67 each on RT, and 63 reviewer, 4.1 user on Metacritic. These are both based on a small sample of reviews, and from what I have seen of them, I expect the scores to drop across the board. Even the mainstream reviewers are calling it boring, soulless, unnecessary and a cash grab.

Sounds a lot like the time the Pepe creator tried to kill off Pepe because of everyone using him, only for it to do nothing to stop people from posting Pepe. He did a lot of dumb shit to try and make Pepe “Not problematic” and they all backfired, the most cringe was when he tried to make Pepe positive, and people who obviously don’t understand Pepe jumped in on the short fad before being btfo.

haha lmao the very fucking definition of a bluepill trying to “take back the term ‘red pill’”

Honestly, all the troonery has done is display that man on estrogen starts making unbelievably stupid decisions, and woman on testosterone starts making reasonable decisions but too late to avoid the irreversible changes like beard or voice breakage.

Here’s a funny story. The director of the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot thing is all pissy over his flick not being included in the recent Ultimate collection set.
full
It’s also not in a standard release:
full
Or even a foreign release:
full
I guess it is kinda odd not to include it, as there is no copyright complication keeping it from being included. My assumption is the choice not to include it came from a desire to focus on what was relevant. Afterlife is a follow up to the original film and it’s sequel. The 2016 film, regardless of quality is disconnected. A few old actors have cameos, maybe that would have been considered confusing? Whatever the reason, I’m surprised a film with clearly little effort had people behind it being so vocal.

Of course they’re vocal, it costs nothing to screech while it costs quite a bit of effort to produce a movie that isn’t shit both figuratively and literally while exploiting women to try and scam the money out of them.

Sony realized the Ghostbusters 2016 hill was a hill not worth dying on, as much as I hate to be the guy who cites ecelebs as an argument ender, the plinkett review was basically the nail in the coffin for GB2016.
