The last part is to make the White characters so perfect that they always win, and never lose or fail.
 
Of course, in my stories, they just win and lose like the others, because it depends on each character’s skill. In this case, the Asian protag and his White friend are both jousters.
 
In their country, jousting is very popular, introduced by a neighbouring country where the White protag’s family came from. || Unfortunately it became associated with sports hooligans who pick fights whenever their contestants lose, like soccer in Galatasaray in Turkey.||
 
Both of them win at two different, distant competitions due to their skill, but the latter because his opponent was too reckless. They spent their childhood years being trained by their dads to be sports champions, like the other boys in their neighbourhood.
 
If “jobbing” means “tokenism”, well, I added these characters there because they looked pretty, and then I gave them a backstory to fit within its setting.

The Halo show is almost certainly going to suck, and the people making it are telegraphing the reason. Just like Amazon’s LotR show, the showrunners see the IP as nothing more than a sandbox in which to play with their own toys. They see the lore as something to push aside, so they can tell their own story. All they want is orcs or elites as window dressing, under the hood it’s going to be the same bland shit they always produce nowadays.

That reminds me: China once built a recolored Gundam statue for some amusement park. Chinese social media coomed all over it for how cool Chinese culture and art are.

In fact, alien abductions as a whole creep me the fuck out. That’s probably why I’ll nope out of seeing Nope and will never be able to watch a let’s play of They Are Here.

George R.R. Martin is such a cunt. He should just admit that he’s given up on the main series and only cares about flogging it for easier, easily monetizable spinoffs.

Not to downplay your own frustration, but I for one am quite satisfied and amused to watch Georgie’s slow-motion implosion. Knowing the pervert manbaby walrus who was so fucking jealous that he would never be good as Tolkien that he decided to crib off his name and then burn the genre he inspired in so many future writers will have a legacy of utter, absolute disappointment and failure makes me feel all giddy inside.
 
So long, Georgie boy! Looks like there was a fucking reason that Tolkien stands the test of time, and no amount of synonyms for ‘penis’ will ever compensate for it. Hope you choke on your next cake. :3

Oh, right. The man who is clearly upset that he’ll never be as good as Tolkien, specifically because instead of expanding his horizons with life experience he’d rather spend his life writing a pornographic deconstruction of the fantasy genre. And when I say “pornographic” I mean both in the way it’s come to be regarded as well as the original meaning of that word: Degradation of characters without any higher point to it, simply for shock value and the sake of degrading them.
 
And it’s really clear that he has a jealous disdain of Tolkien, just read/listen to him in interviews where he discusses the great author and his work, especially Lord of the Rings. An obvious pattern quickly begins to form, and I’ve heard enough meaningless “we’re big fans of STAR WARS/Halo/Wheel of Time here” statements to filter them out and look for the inventible “buuuuut…” that comes after, signaling that no, they just said that so they can talk shit without earning too much ire.

But he’s NOT writing. And if someone’s wasting their life, how is that anyone else’s problem?

Which characters and how? Again, I don’t think this has had much of a negative impact on any genre, and it’s not anyone’s problem except those who read the books.  
And to be honest, fantasy tax policy was a good meme, and Tolkien could have improved some on his pacing.

Martin is the guy who loves to knock fanfiction as infringing on his “rights” even though his weirdo neckbeard ass literally wrote fanfiction before he got “found” as an “author”.
 
The guy is an asshole and his writing is horrible.

I can’t find anything about it infringing on rights apart from some vagueness that doesn’t clear up if he means people actually profiting from fanfiction. Which he might be right about to be honest, I think it’s cool that Fallout Equestria actually gets sold as a physical book, but I’d think Hasbro would have the right to the universe and non-original characters.  
And what’s wrong with his writing?

Okay, the Rice thing is a surprise. Indeed, “I did not know that Anne Rice had a “proletarian and Democratic soul.””  
I can sort of understand their issue, although Diana Gabaldon goes about it a lot better. Characters evidently mean a lot to some authors, and I wouldn’t want to upset someone who seems as nice as Gabaldon. But I think the genie really is out of the bottle and there’s nothing to do but ignore the fanfiction and grow some skin. These days I can’t imagine you could act like Rice and not lose a whole lot of costumers.  
I also think Martin has a point regarding Marion Zimmer Bradley, who was apparently threatened with lawsuit by a fanfiction author because their stories shared some similarities. How are you supposed to prove that you didn’t get a particular idea from one of several million fanfics of your story. But then again, how would you prove that of any story? I think pretty much every plot progression, point and twist has already been told, and the only thing left is the difference in the details. I guess authors just should avoid interacting with fanfiction until their series is done.  
Also, C.S. Lewis was a nice man.

I read in passing that the Halo show is starting to make the UNSC the bad guys. Is the antagonist faction still the Covenant? In that case, how?
