I fucking HATE Christmas! Let us all share in the hatred for a stupid holiday where people pretend they’re frindly and fighting the good fight 1 day out of 365 days. T will be no peace on Earth.

Christmas is a great holiday, distorted by materialism, like all holidays*. What was once about Christ has become about commerce, or “family”; shallow self-worship either way. While I wish I didn’t dislike my extended family, I generally do, and being around them is lame. Thanksgiving is also annoying in this regard. However, in either case there is at least good food, and having starved before (on purpose; don’t pity me) I do appreciate good food.

*Despite what some hysterics believe, this isn’t new. The commodification and politicization of Roman gladiatorial games over time is a great example of this.

Personally, I consider Halloween to be the worst holiday. (Modern) Christmas and Thanksgiving have the redeeming qualities of being family gatherings but Halloween is just about costumes and candy.

I know NOTHING
@Twiface
That is a interesting position in this age as I often see Halloween being boosted as better because of the lack of stress around tradition, family, and:
>stupid holiday where people pretend they’re frindly and fighting the good fight 1 day out of 365 days.

Christmas and Thanksgiving are what you make it to be. The sheer irony of that statement is even those messages of anti-commercialism have themselves become commercialized in this modern age. With a decline of family and jadedness within (at least western) society a lot of it feels like a hollow shell of forced obligation and a sickening bombardment for many. As for me, I was raised in a family that celebrated a full 12 days of Christmas and there is a lot of personal tradition around it. Thanksgiving I also love. Halloween I am in debate on but I may end up agreeing with your position, funny enough.

Halloween is All Saints’ Eve, November 1st is All Saints’ Day, and then there’s All Souls’ Day afterwards. In actual fact all holidays have become forgotten or otherwise commercialized, secularized. They’re “culture” days, with the most meaning to come out of nationalism (e.g. Saint Patrick’s Day) or close family (e.g. Christmas), which is still inferior to the spirituality that these holidays once were celebrated with. Ultimately I don’t think it’s fair to say which is better, when they’re all symptomatic of a larger spiritual, cultural rot.

Come the Second Religiousness, they’re sure to have a revival, and I am curious to see how this will pan out….

Most Christmas music heard today has little to do with Christmas and was written decades ago by jews who probably hated Jesus.
