I live in an area with alot of native American descended people. At work, someone told me that their father who was half white got a tomahawk chucked at him while he was hiking through a forest in an Indian reservation. There’s a few groups who are violently hostile.

Malaysian politics is somewhat like the US, but more conservative.
 
The “Democrats” in Malaysia are somewhat conservative, but more supportive of non-Malays and non-Muslims.
 
One party, DAP (rocket), is hated by extremist Malays, who accuse them of “Chinese communism” because most voters there are Chinese. Hilariously, DAP members sometimes promote their party in very stupid ways, like putting a Christmas tree with the party logo at a Christian village!
 
The other, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (Socialist Patty of Malaysia), is more closer to the SJWs of America, but are less rowdy.
 
Another notable liberal party in Malaysia is PKR, run by Anwar. At least they seem more reasonable.
 
Our version of the “Republicans” are more stupid, but not so militant like QAnon. There’s UMNO, a nationalist party that kept the Malay people with a spoonfed attitude, especially in rural areas, and keeping Malaysia backwards with its racist and paranoid rhetoric.
 
Then there are Perkasa and Bersatu, two more parties that are closer to nationalism and incompetence - they claim to defend Islam and the Malay race, but many of their members are corrupt. Bersatu was the party of Muhyiddin, the former prime minister who failed the country during the COVID pandemic.
 
There are several more parties for non-Malays like me: MCA for the Chinese, MIC for the Indians, and Gerakan for anyone.
 
Last but not least are the worst of the bunch: PAS, the Islamist party. Very notorious for demolishing Hindu temples, hating Christians, and supporting Taliban, the scum of the world.
 
We don’t have an equivalent for libertarians in Malaysia.

I saw on the news that non-citizens now have voting rights in NY. What? How did that happen? We can’t have free recycling, but literally anybody can now vote?

It’s funny, because “slave state residents go to other states to vote in favor of slavery” was a major point whenever my history classes would get around to the buildup before the civil war. I can’t think of any better showcase of “It’s fine when we do it”

I am too tired to check but from my understanding it is for local elections only–something that sometimes happened in the past, so it’s not completely without precedence, BUT that still doesn’t mean it is not hugely problematical (and if I recall it was a late 1800s to turn of the century thing). Mayor, budget bounds and were the money goes could all be affected by this. Though I imagine the many will especially focus on lower income illegal immigrants what I would be most interested in is more upwardly mobile visa holders and bussiness interests that may make up a lot of the vote in New York City and surrounding areas that maybe tempted to adopt this.
