This lady saw the collapse of a once great empire. Sad!
The British “Empire” was an attack against the british peoples, against the conquered peoples, and against the world.
All for short-term profits of a few, at best.

It also blazed the trails of influence which make its heir (replacement) possible.

Liz, the super-conservative, already has a plan to bring in more foreigners. This time we need to prop up the economy because Russia and Covid.

Should have gone for pajeet. Or gotten off the old derrière and installed a government that isn’t foreign owned and operated by you know who.

So, after two years of petty drama, they finally allow Sinn Féin first minister in Northern Ireland.
Is this still the right thread? :P

millions of public money
I hate how every conversation about Britain’s royal family always devolves into an argument over money. Governments do things all the time without asking “will it be revenue neutral?” Parks, for example, are rarely ever built with the intention of attracting tourists, because they are primarily intended to make life better for the locals. And yet people bicker over the Windsors “costing millions” as if Parliament isn’t pursuing its own schemes wasting billions.
Do people ever talk like this about other royal families? In Spain? The Netherlands? Scandinavia? Morocco? The Gulf States? Brunei? Thailand? Japan? Tonga?

Of course they do. Every monarchy, at least in the modern world, faces some republican opposition.
But people in english-speaking contexts generally, will have stronger opinion on the British monarchy.

Yes, but the “they’re a waste of money” talking point being the mainstay of anti-monarchism seems to be a uniquely British thing. Not just saying they’re unnecessary, but fixating on the relatively small proportion of the state budget spent on supporting them. It seems excessively materialistic to me, especially in contrast to Japan where the monarch’s spiritual role is still taken seriously, despite there being enough atheists to rival Britain.

That’s more than anti-monarchist discourse.
It is a deep rot which is overtaking western, especially anglo, culture.
I have no great love for monarchy, but an archaic institution of birthright
is still preferable to the ruling class being able to appoint
whatever head of state they want for to maximally insult the public.
