I was thinking that perhaps Twilight is still set in stone and she must overcome her own self-doubt and worries. We all know how much she reveres Princess Celestia, so perhaps Twilight fears the possibility of such an event occurring when she would be forced to defy her old-mentor in order to be truly to her new friends. A case of new relationships destroying old relationship and the choice of whether to go forward or simply turn back to what is familiar and safe.
