Original Description:
Here is the other Bayeux Tapestry inspired scene which I drew for our pen and paper RPG. Unlike the first scene it does not have a direct equivalent on the actual Bayeux Tapestry but shows a scene from the lore of our pen and paper RPG setting, referring to events 27 years before the adventure our group is playing.
According to that background the last war between ponys and griffons took place 27 years ago when the seven jarldoms of the (viking inspired) Griffon realm united to conquer the Griffish Isles (in spite of the name settled by ponys). That conflict culminated in the (sea)battle off the Galloper Sand near the town of Trottingham on the Griffish Isles. In spite of it being a rather large scale battle no pony or griffon actually died there and the scene depicted here shows an example of how this worked out. The pegasus Thunderhoof delivers the unconscious (knocked out in battle) Jarl Golrog of Griffonsea to one of his ships while in turn the honor bound griffons do not attack the pegasus.
It was one out of many such cases in the battle in which both sides showed mercy / restraint.
There is a lot more to be said about the events of back then, but by telling all about that I would enter spoiler territory for the players in the group who may yet find out some of the well known events of those days as well as some secrets very few are aware of ;)
Some of the griffons in this image look way more anthropomorphised than I would like them to. I reckon I let myself be influenced by the human made and human depicting Bayeux tapestry a little too much there, but I still hope that the importance of the moment was captured.
There were more scenes that I would have liked to depict, but the game has by now moved beyond the place where the characters of our group could take a look at the tapestry, so the next images refering to that RPG will be less tapestry like depictions of non play characters or other elements or scenes in the game.
